Statement

Nerve III researches how people read, understand and act on an interface. A studio that does that work should be able to account for its own. This statement sets out the standard this website is built to, how that has been checked, what is known not to conform, and how to tell the studio when something gets in your way.

1. Standard applied

This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 at conformance level AA, which is the level referenced by the European standard EN 301 549 and by the accessibility requirements of Directive (EU) 2019/882, the European Accessibility Act.

Nerve III considers this website to be substantially conformant with WCAG 2.2 level AA. Substantially conformant means that most of the website meets the standard and that any exception is recorded in section 4. This is a self-assessment. It has not been audited or certified by an independent third party, and no claim of full conformance is made.

2. Measures taken

Accessibility is treated as part of building the website rather than as a later correction. The following are in place:

• A skip link to the main content, present on every page.
• Semantic structure: one h1 per page and a heading order with no skipped levels, so the page can be navigated by headings.
• Every interactive control reachable and operable by keyboard alone, in a logical order, with a visible focus indicator that meets the contrast requirement on both the light and the dark background.
• Controls that are hidden from sight are also removed from the keyboard order, so no focus is lost to an invisible element.
• Text and interface colours checked by computation rather than by eye. Every text element meets or exceeds the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required at level AA, or 3:1 where the text qualifies as large.
• Layout that reflows to a single column without horizontal scrolling at viewport widths from 320 pixels upward, and holds without overflow to 2560.
• Every form field paired with a visible label, required fields marked as such for assistive technology and optional ones named in their label, with errors identified in text rather than by colour alone.
• Status messages announced to assistive technology without moving focus unexpectedly.
• Motion reduced for anyone whose system requests it, through prefers-reduced-motion.
• Content that remains readable if scripting fails or is switched off.
• Meaningful alternative text on images, and decorative elements hidden from assistive technology.

3. How this was checked

Conformance was assessed by a combination of automated measurement and manual testing:

• Contrast ratios computed for every rendered text element against its actual background rather than its declared one, so that transparency and layering are accounted for.
• Layout tested at viewport widths from 320 to 2560 pixels, and under text-only zoom, checking for horizontal overflow and clipped text.
• Keyboard-only navigation walked through on each page, including the menu, the accordion and the form.
• Structure inspected through the accessibility tree, rather than inferred from the markup.

Testing to date has been carried out by the studio using desktop browsers. Testing with users of assistive technology, and with screen readers on mobile, has not yet been carried out. Section 4 should be read with that in mind.

4. Known limitations

The following are known and are recorded here rather than left unstated:

• No independent audit. The assessment in section 1 is the studio’s own. An independent review has not been commissioned.
• No testing with assistive technology users. Screen reader behaviour has been reasoned about from the accessibility tree rather than confirmed with the people who rely on it.
• Text-only zoom. Where a browser is set to enlarge text without scaling the page, the pricing cards on the home page begin to overflow their column above roughly 160 per cent. Page zoom, which scales the layout together with the text, is unaffected at every level tested.
• Small interface labels. Section tags, price labels and field labels are set below 10 pixels at default settings as a deliberate typographic choice. WCAG sets no minimum text size and each of these meets the contrast requirement, but readers who do not adjust their browser settings may find them small.

Where a barrier is identified after publication, it is recorded in this section until it is fixed.

5. Reporting a barrier

If any part of this website prevents you from doing what you came to do, please say so. A description of what you were trying to do, the page, and the browser or assistive technology you were using is helpful but not required.

Write to info@nerveiii.com. Reports are acknowledged within five working days. Where the fix is straightforward it is made and you are told; where it is not, you are told what is planned and when.

If you are not satisfied with the response, you may raise the matter with the relevant national enforcement authority. In the Netherlands, market surveillance under the European Accessibility Act is carried out by the Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur.

6. Accessibility in client work

Accessibility findings form part of an engagement where the proposal provides for it. Such findings are made as a matter of research and design practice: they describe what stands between a person and the thing they are trying to do.

7. Feedback and review

This statement is reviewed whenever the website changes materially, and in any event once a year. The version and date above record when it was last verified rather than when the page was last edited.
